Swarup

Swarup Gangode is 21 years old lives in Kadva Mahlalungi village of Dindori in Nasik

Adversities were his closest friend while growing up. His father was an alcoholic who passed away when he was just 4 years old. Soon after his father passed away, his mother was blamed for his early demise. Unable to handle the taunts, Swarup’s mother left to her brother’s home with both her sons. Swarup and his brother slowly started settling in their lives. To support the family, his elder brother started working in other farms. His mother insisted that Swarup continues his education. But the money his brother was earning was not enough to support expenses on books, stationaries etc. Swarup was studying in 9th standard when he started working in general stores and medical shops to fund his studies and also support his family. Just when Swarup thought things were falling in place, his mother was diagnosed with a heart ailment and needed surgery. His mother was operated in a government hospital first but later on had to be treated again in a private hospital. Almost all of his income around Rs. 3000-4000 from the shops started going towards his mother’s treatment and it became difficult to support his education. At this critical moment, Swarup came to know about the PRIF scholarship from newspaper advertisement and he applied for it.

"The scholarship support came when I had no support and had almost lost hope. Now I can pursue my mother’s dream of becoming the first engineer in our whole generation."
